HEAD BREWER MAX FILTER
Our Head Brewer, Max Filter, was born and raised in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He picked up his passion for home brewing beer while in college at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. In 2012 Max enrolled in the World Brewing Academy’s International Diploma in Brewing Technology course, spending time studying at the Siebel Institute in Chicago, Illinois and the Doemens Academy in Munich, Germany. Upon graduating the program that same year, Max took a job on the packaging line at Left Hand Brewing in Longmont, Colorado, where his journey in commercial brewing finally kicked off. After a year at Left Hand he was able to transition into a Head Brewer position at Renegade Brewing in Denver, Colorado, where he worked for three and a half years. Between 2013 and 2017 Max helped grow Renegade from 1,000bbls/year to 6,000bbls/year, reaching distribution in seven states across the country. However, in March of 2017, Max and his wife Justine made the decision to move back to Minnesota to be closer to Justine’s family.
Max was introduced to Matt Rosati through a mutual friend in the brewing industry. Matt was looking for a head brewer for his soon-to-be launched business venture, and Max was looking to continue to grow and develop his skill set within the craft beer industry. It was a great fit from the start. Max worked closely with Matt to develop the recipes that would become the backbone of Chanhassen Brewing Company, both adapting some of Matt’s existing homebrew recipes and drawing on Max’s eight years of experience in commercial brewing and recipe development. The resulting blend of classic styles and forward-thinking beers utilizing budding technologies gives Chanhassen Brewing a solid line-up of beverages that embody Max’s core values of brewing: Creating beers that are both familiar and experimental, approachable and novel, comfortable and mind-blowing.
